VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL)-- The Valdosta Fire Department responded to an early morning fire today at the Azalea Towers Apartment complex on Tara drive.

The fire was contained to the first floor and mainly impacted only one unit of the 101 room apartment complex.

Following the fire, 64 residents were taken to the Morningside Baptist Church for temporary shelter and the American Red Cross is working with the tenants to make sure temporary housing is arranged.

One unit received major fire damage. Six received minor smoke damage but the Fire Department says they will be livable by Friday.

One person was taken to the hospital for mild smoke inhalation and has since been released.
