TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee's Animal Service Center is getting ready to welcome back a group of K-9s who successfully made it through Heart-worm Assistance Rehabilitation Training. The staff hopes this lands them under the Christmas tree this holiday season.
The program is made possible through the help of inmates at the Florida Department of Corrections in Wakulla.
Dogs that meet the requirement for the program go through a three-month training period where the inmates treat them, rehabilitate them, and train them for obedience.
On Thursday, the animal center will be welcoming home four dogs who made it through the program.
The staff expressed how the dogs have been through a lot and are deserving of a new home.
"They're just very loving they've been in the shelter or prison environment for quite some time. They are very worthy of good homes," said H.A.R.T. Program Coordinator, Ann English.
The four dogs will be available for adoption starting at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
The adoption fee is $45, that includes six months of heart worm prevention treatment for the animal.
