Andrew Gillum rides along with Tallahassee Police

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum participated in a ride-along with Tallahassee Police.

Mayor Gillum says the ride-alongs are important because they allow people to better understand what an officer goes through day to day.

The mayor also wanting to highlight the decrease in violent crime rates in the Capital City saying Tallahassee is not a place where you see a lot of "random acts of violence."

However, Gillum said there was an increase in property crimes in the area and says it may have to do with "crimes of opportunity."

Gillum says, no arrests were made during his ride Friday, however there were a few traffic related incidents called in.
