TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Mayor Andrew Gillum has issued a statement saying that he accepts that the state attorney has a duty to follow up on complaints, but says he is, "certain there are no grounds for further action."

In a statement Gillum explained that he would fully comply with the investigation:

"The state attorney has a duty to follow up on the complaints his office receives. While I am certain there are no grounds for further action, I will fully comply with the Sheriff's Office. I have apologized for the human error and reimbursed the city for the expense of the software. I look forward to bringing this inquiry to a speedy conclusion."

This comes after State Attorney Jack Campbell contacted the Leon County Sheriff's Office and FDLE to investigate and present their findings to him.

On Wednesday, Campbell received a written request from a resident, asking that Gillum be investigated. The written complaint alleges that Gillum purchased several thousands dollars of political software through public funds.

Jaime Van Pelt, the community relations coordinator for the Mayor's office, said that Gillum reimbursed the city last week, the total coming in under $5,000.
