PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - An Army veteran who lost his leg plans to run in Pensacola's half marathon next month.
Thirty-two-year-old Elliott James had one leg amputated below the knee in 2005. James tells the Pensacola News Journal (http://on.pnj.com/1BbgM0b ) a prosthetic leg known as a "running blade" has been critical to his recovery.
James says he plans to run the Jan. 10 half marathon to support other amputees and to help to provide similar running blades to others.
He says a running prosthesis is life-changing for people who have been confined to wheelchairs because it allows them to become physically active again.
