TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- September is National Preparedness month and Leon County wants the community to take action now.

Partnering with the American Red Cross, the city of Tallahassee provided disaster buckets and readiness tips to residents. Being prepared is the best way to tackle any emergency.

"If there's a big event that happens, lets say in Tallahassee for sure. The trees come down, we may not be able to come get you or visit with you for several days, maybe even a week because of all the trees that can come down. We want to make sure that you're prepared to take care of yourself, your family, and your pet," said Robby Powers.

Disaster preparedness kits come with essentials items such as duct tape, first aid kits, flashlights, and even an important list of contacts that you can use in case of any emergency.

"It's good to get the information that you would need to have so when emergencies occur you'll know what to do. I See I have good information and I'm definitely going to share it with people that I know and people that I know that can benefit from it," explained Gloria Cox.

Emergency first responders were also there in order to answer any additional questions.
