TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The American Red Cross is assisting those affected by flooding in the Tampa Bay area.

The agency has opened a shelter at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church in Hudson to accommodate residents who were evacuated early Tuesday from the Oaks View Apartments in nearby New Port Richey.

Pasco County was among the hardest hits areas. Emergency management officials reported $1 million in damage from weekend flooding caused by days of rain.

As the water starts receding Red Cross volunteers will go through affected neighborhoods to assess the damage and determine the needs of residents. Mobile feeding units will also distribute water and snacks.
