TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-- The American Heart Association is "painting" the old Capitol red for American Heart Month.
The special month kicks off Friday, February 1, with National Wear Red Day. People all across the nation are asked to wear red to create awareness and support the fight against heart disease, especially in women. According to the National Institute of Health, heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States. It is also a leading cause of disability among women.
In support of the effort, The Department of Management Services (DMS) has agreed to light the old Capitol building red Friday evening at 6:15 p.m., and it will remain lit throughout the night.
