WASHINGTON (AP) - The Pentagon says an American general was killed Tuesday in Afghanistan when a man believed to be an Afghan soldier opened fire at a military base.

Rear Admiral John Kirby says the assailant fired into a group of international soldiers and was then killed.

One official says the attacker, dressed in an Afghan army uniform, wounded approximately 15 people, roughly half of them Americans.

Among the wounded was a German brigadier general.
