Alzheimer's Awareness: Powerful Tools for Caregivers

Posted

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- September is Alzheimer's Awareness Month, and every Tuesday, WTXL Sunrise is talking about some important information about the disease.

The Alzheimer's Project has many resources available for patients and caregivers.

One program is called Powerful Tools for Caregivers. It's a six-week class that helps people develop self-care tools. Other lessons include reducing personal stress, changing negative self-talk and communicate their needs to family members.

Officials say it's important for caregivers to take care of themselves as well. These services and resources help show ways to start.

For more information, contact Maggie Maddox at (850) 386-2778.

The Alzheimer's Project is hosting the "Forget Me Not" Walk and Festival. The kick-off party is Tuesday, September 29 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Momo's Pizza on Market Street.

The event is November 1 from 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.
