An Alabama man shoveling dirt from a road in Georgia has been struck and killed by a motorist.
The Georgia State Police say 45-year-old Charles Pollard of Ranburne, Alabama, worked for a logging company and was hit Thursday near the intersection of Georgia 5 and Cavender Creek Road east of Lowell in Carroll County.
Police say Pollard was working on the side of the road removing dirt and gravel when he apparently stepped into the path of a car. He died at the scene.
Police said the 83-year-old driver of the car was charged with driving while unlicensed.
