ATLANTA (AP) - An inmate at the federal penitentiary in Atlanta has been sentenced to serve more than seven additional years after a jury convicted him of assaulting the warden.
Federal prosecutors say 33-year-old Jeree E. Grey of Birmingham, Ala., was sentenced Tuesday to serve an additional seven years, three months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release.
Prosecutors say Grey stepped out of a line of inmates walking to their morning work call and struck the warden multiple times. The warden suffered injuries to his face and neck in the March 2012 assault.
At the time of the attack, Grey had been serving a 10-year sentence for possession with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine.
