ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The parent company of Florida Hospital in central Florida has agreed to pay $5.4 million to resolve a false claims case involving radiation oncologists.

The U.S. Justice Department announced the settlement on Thursday.

Federal authorities say Adventist Health System Sunbelt Healthcare Corporation provided radiation services to Medicare patients with cancer without supervision from an oncologist or a similarly-qualified person.

Federal authorities say that violated the False Claims Act.

They said the supervision requirement was violated from 2010 to 2013 at locations in the Orlando and Daytona Beach areas.

Allegations about the violations were brought to the attention of federal authorities by a Tampa radiation oncologist. He will get more than $1 million as his share of the settlement.
