TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The administration building at the Leon County Sheriff's Office is now named after a long-time sheriff who served the community for decades.
Sheriff Larry Campbell died in December after battling cancer.
On Tuesday, a ceremony was held where a crowd of law enforcement officers, community members and leaders gathered to recognize him.
It was a special moment for the family of the late sheriff as the new name, the Larry Campbell Administration Building, was unveiled.
"Colton, Carsyn and Campbell will some day be able to come to FSU, and they'll be able to tell their friends that there Pa was here," said Jack Campbell, the sheriff's son.
Campbell worked more than 50 years of his life in law enforcement.
"When it was time to be tough he could be tough, when it was time to be gentle and help someone in need, he could do that too," said Campbell.
He was also a U.S. Marine.
"The dedication of this building is a small token compared to the lifetime of service that he gave to his community and to his country," said Leon County Sheriff Mike Wood, who was appointed to the position by the governor after Campbell died.
Sheriff Wood says he was not just a boss, but a mentor, a close friend and like family.
This tribute will leave a lasting impact of sheriff Larry Campbell's life for generations to come.
Sheriff Wood also credited the Leon County commissioners for the building dedication, saying they had the vision. He thanked them for their help in making it a reality.
