VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - A man has been arrested, accused of breaking into at least seven cars in one night.
Russell Fields, 20, of Adel was arrested by the Valdosta Police Department.
On Monday around 2:20 a.m., VPD responded to a report of a car break-in at a local business. An employee from the business reported that someone broke into his car while he was working.
Throughout the night, multiple victims kept reporting that their cars had been broken into. The calls were from various areas in Valdosta.
During their investigation, witnesses told police that a man was driving a dark vehicle and acting suspiciously. Witnesses also provided police with a physical description of the suspect.
A "Be On the Look Out” was issued for the vehicle and suspect. Not long after the BOLO was issued, a police officer spotted the described car.
Police spoke with the driver, Russell Fields, and found him to be in possession of multiple items that had recently been reported stolen. As a result, Fields was taken into custody and transported to the Lowndes County Jail.
He is now facing seven counts of theft by entering motor vehicle (FELONY).
“The case represents yet another example of community policing where citizens help the Valdosta Police Department prevent and solve crimes. We can’t be everywhere so we need our citizens to help, like they did in this case. The information gathered by the witnesses was essential in putting the subject in jail and returning the stolen property to the rightful owners,” said Lieutenant Adam Bembry.
