THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WALB) - Over $27 million has been budgeted for the Thomasville city school's 2019 fiscal year.
Board Chairman Chris Rodd says there was much debate and compromise before they reached that number.
He says with recent school shootings, they wanted to be as pro-active as they can be.
So they budgeted enough money to be able to provide additional security to all the city schools.
"Definitely on our minds this year was the need for increased security, not because we've had a particular incident within our system, but we want to be prepared if we ever do," said Rodd.
Each school will be monitored by a Thomasville police officer during the school year.
Rodd says with the four new officers, there are now six officers guarding the schools.
He adds they will contribute $50,000 of their overall budget to be divided amongst the new officers.
The Thomasville Police Department will cover the rest.
