QUINCY, Fl. (WTXL) -- Construction in Quincy may take place soon to increase public safety.
Currently there are no sidewalks along Adams Street, in between Clark St. and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Community members have to walk on the road or in ditches if they're travelling by foot.
Before the construction can begin, County commissioners need to approve a resolution supporting the sidewalk project. They'll take a vote on the resolution in their meeting next Tuesday.
"You always see people walk along the road and the way the curve is set up, [if] you're coming around the curve, you might not see a pedestrian walking", said Adrian Nealy, a resident of Quincy. "So i think it's a good thing to have a sidewalk there for safety reasons."
The city will be using a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation to fund the project. The city received $368,000 as a part of the Safer Routes to School program.
