There were rallies in at least five Florida cities, calling for the protection of the local environment.

This comes a few weeks after plans were halted in North Dakota for a pipeline that would come through a Native American reservation.

Floridians are asking Senator Bill Nelson and other lawmakers to get involved in an attempt to halt the pipeline's construction.

In Tallahassee, local activists are speaking out as well, saying the pipeline is bound to burst and contaminate water for wildlife and people.

Protesters are planning a mass civil disobedience demonstration at Suwannee River State Park on January 14th.
