CALLAWAY, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Florida Panhandle man is dead after his small fishing boat sank in Callaway Bayou.

The Bay County Sheriff's Office says the boat sank Wednesday night. They say another man on the boat survived and was not injured.

The News Herald (http://bit.ly/1MEmLzC) reports the boat had engine trouble while the men were fishing. After several attempts to restart the motor, the men realized the boat was taking on water. They decided to swim to shore.

One made it to shore and sought help for his friend.

Several agencies including the sheriff's office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission searched for the man. He was brought to shore, but attempts to revive him failed.
