TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--Residents in Midway are seeing an increase in speeding tickets.

Gadsden county clerks say more than 1400 citations have been given out this year.

But just how much of the cash goes to the city?

A representative from the Gadsden County Clerk of Courts office said the money actually goes to a variety of places.

For example, if a driver is issued a speeding ticket for $127 dollars, the city gets a little over $3 dollars, while local law enforcement officers get $2 dollars.

This explanation comes after ABC 27 news received a complaint from a resident who says Midway police are pulling drivers over, just to make money.

Midway police say this is all a part of their efforts to decrease the number of traffic crashes and fatalities in the area.

By state law the money must be reported to the Florida Department of Revenue, the remaining funds are then distributed out to multiple state agencies.
