LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Lowndes County residents got to know their candidates on Monday in an intimate setting.
Several candidates packed into the conference room of Mama June's Restaurant in Valdosta, speaking to a room of about 50 residents. The discussion remained fluid as candidate after candidates explained their reasoning for running.
The meeting was put on by the Lowndes County Democratic Society and both democrats and republicans were invited attend. Several races came into focus at the event, but one that many have their eyes on who take on Lowndes County Sheriff Incumbent Chris Prine.
Police Department Captain Calvin Troy and former sheriff Ashley Paulk are fighting out to the democratic seat to take on republican. Paulk spoke at the meeting, however Calvin Troy was unable to attend meeting.
Lowndes County Primary elections are on May 24th and early voting begins May 2nd.
