TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Maybe you're looking for a career change but don't know how to begin the job search. That's where expert advice from a career consultant can be helpful.
Anne Carpenter from Thomas University joined us on WTX Sunrise with some tips on getting prepared for the job search.
Carpenter is the Career Coordinator for Thomas University in Georgia.
She says connections are key when it comes to landing that first job or making a move into a new career. Never miss the chance to network, whether in person or online.
When you get a job interview, Carpenter says it's important to dress your best. Look professional and confident, and do your research beforehand on the company and position. The TU Career Center also offers the opportunity to do a mock interview before you head out to meet an employer.
When it comes to resumes and cover letters, it's always best to have someone else look it over for any typos or grammatical errors. Carpenter recommends the site WinWay, where you input your information and it's formatted for you.
Once you have your final draft, the TU Career Center experts can give it a once-over to make sure you're ready.
Thomas University also offers several job fairs throughout the year that are open to online and campus students, alumni and the community.
The next job fair is Tuesday, November 17 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. It's focused on education students. It's in the lobby of Smith-Bonvillian Hall on TU's Main Campus.
