TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Every Wednesday, Meteorologist Max Tsaparis shares some cool science with us. This week, we are talking about clear ice, new money for NASA, and a video of a pygmy goat.
Two hikers found what appears to be perfectly clear ice in the Slovakian mountains. In fact, it's so clear it looks as if the pair are actually walking on air. Ice that looks cloudy or white has air bubbles in it because of thawing and re-freezing. This lake however, has been frozen solid since November, allowing it to be completely see-through.
NASA, the federal agency which for years has been under funded, received a nice little nod from Congress. The new budget for the 2015 fiscal year includes a 2 percent increase over the 2014 budget. This means NASA will have 18 billion dollars to spend next year. That's 500 million more than NASA even requested. Most of that money will go towards furthering the agency's dream of getting a man to Mars.
And finally this morning, a man's new best friend and it's not what you'd expect. Benjamin, a five weeks old pygmy goat, was rejected by his mom after being born. Nursery owner, Tom Horsfield found him near his nursery in England and now personally cares for him. Once he gets bigger, Horsfield will release him back into the wild.
