ORLANDO, Fla. (WTXL) -- 2014 is appearing to be a year of growth, expansion and construction at Universal Orlando Resort with a possible fifth resort in the works.
Earlier this year the theme park opened their new resort, Cabana Bay Beach Resort. Months later they opened their new wildly popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley theme park expansion.
A "notice of commencement" was filed August 6, 2014 with Orange County's comptroller's office. Orlando Sentinel reports the filing was made for excavation work in the same area where Universal Orlando previously filed to build a new 1,000 room resort that would include 159,000 square feet of building space. The proposed site area is located between Royal Pacific Resort and Universal Orlando's new Cabana Bay Beach Resort.
The filings were made on behalf of a group called Universal City Florida Hotel Venture III.
Orlando Sentinel reports a Universal spokesman would not comment, however state law requires a public filing with details of a project before construction work begins.
