TALLAHASSEE, FL- Many people go through financial difficulties, whether that's falling behind on bills or filing bankruptcy.
Those struggles could get in the way of obtaining credit in the future.
Stacy Bush with Bush Wealth Management is giving advice about how to get back on their feet after a drop in their credit.
Bush said there are some steps to follow to repair your credit:
- Obtain a copy of your credit report. Check it for errors
- Add good credit information to your file
- Go directly to the creditor to clear your credit record
- Explain the hardships you have endured and remind the creditor that your account is now current.
- If you have bad debts, you may be able to negotiate away poor credit
- Add a statement to your credit report describing your side of the story
- Contact the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
