TALLAHASSEE, FL- The Charmettes from the Incorporated Leon County Chapter is honoring seven local high school students for their community service this weekend.
The 45th Annual Debutante Ball and Presentation showcases the young ladies accomplishments.
It's a long-standing tradition since the 1970's.
Kathryn Lewis and Victoria Ellis from the Chapter joined us on WTXL Sunrise Monday morning to talk about the Debutante Ball's rich history.
"1971 is when the initial Debutante Ball took place. 16 young ladies were presented and since then more then 300 young women have been introduced into society through this tradition," said Victoria Ellis.
18-year-old Kathryn Lewis is Miss Debutante of 2016. She said it is important to keep the tradition alive.
"It helps young ladies learn societal skills and etiquette which is important," said Lewis.
The 45th Annual Debutante Ball and Presentation is Saturday, March 26th.
It starts at 6 p.m. at the FSU University Center Club.
$50 at the door.
