TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- More Americans are expected to travel this year -- many heading overseas.
That's according to a new study released by travel website TripAdvisor.
The study reveals that of 60,000 people surveyed, 67% of Americans are planning international travel in 2014. The survey also suggests that Americans will spend on average $8,272 for travel and vacations. That is shy of how much Australians' surveyed are expected to spend -- nearly $12,000 on vacation.
Where Americans travel to will depend on price and value. TripAdvisor says 94% of respondents say their trip will be based on the availability of good deal or special offer.
With more Americans wanting to travel, Florida is among those hoping to become a destination for more domestic and international visitors. VISIT FLORIDA, the state's official tourism marketing agency, is hoping to break records by hosting 100 million visitors in 2014. To reach that goal, Florida Governor Rick Scott is urging lawmakers to pass a budget that includes $100 million to promote and support the state's tourism industry.
That achievement may not be far off. In late March of 2014, VISIT FLORIDA announced last year's totals reached 94.7 million visitors - a 3.5% growth from the year before.
State leaders say every 85 visitors to Florida creates one job.
