(WTXL) — Silvia Smith and John Kanipe joined us on WTXL Sunrise Friday morning to talk about a brand new playground they're building at the HOPE Community.

The purpose of this event is to provide a quality, safe playground for homeless children living at the HOPE Community.

More than 250 volunteers will help build the playground in six hours, on Saturday, October 12. Their plans are influenced by drawings from Hope Community Children.

This project is part of Let's Play, an initiative by Keurig Dr Pepper to provide funding, equipment, and play spaces to help kids and families make active play a daily priority.

It going down at the HOPE Community (2729 W. Pensacola Street, Tallahassee, 32304) on Oct. 12 with a 8:30 a.m. kickoff ceremony. Playground construction then goes from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting event at 2:30 p.m.
