MIDWAY, Fla. — Siteria Gregory and Shannon Stokes joined us Thursday morning to tell us about the Juneteenth Freedom Awards.
The event is being hosted by the Della Walker Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
This year, they are honoring three individuals for their innovations in the fields of community revitalization, technology and engineering and law and public service.
There will be food, performances and an opportunity for attendees to learn about the history and importance of Juneteenth, the celebration that commemorates emancipation from slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865.
The event is happening on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
It's $15 for individual tickets and $120 for a table of 8. All proceeds benefit the Chapter's community service programs.
