TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is February 7th.

Department of Health – Leon and its project partners want to use the Red Alert! Fashion Show to spread awareness and prevention of HIV and talk about the different services in our community for HIV testing, treatment and outreach.

The focus on the black community comes from the racial disparity of new HIV infections in the North Florida Panhandle Region.

In the Tallahassee area, approximately 30% of people identify as black and yet more than 75% of new HIV infections every year are reported in black men and women. In 2016, 1,417 black people in our community were living with HIV, which makes up more than 1% of the black population in Tallahassee.

It all kicks off Wednesday, February 7th from 7-8:30 p.m. at FSU University Health Services. 960 Learning Drive.

Wear something red and receive a free goodie bag. For people in the community, there is free parking after 5:30 pm.
