TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Drivers know the laws for roadways but do walkers know the rules for pedestrians?
Office David Northway from the Tallahassee Police Department has some advice for pedestrians about what to do to stay safe when walking.
The first thing to remember is that if there is a sidewalk or a crosswalk, as a pedestrian you are required to use it. If a pedestrian is hit while walking in a roadway when there is a sidewalk or crosswalk available, they could be found at fault.
If there is no sidewalk available, make sure that you walk against the flow of traffic so drivers can see you.
And a note for drivers; keep your eyes on the road and pay special attention to pedestrians.
