TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- A Leon County group is unveiling a new device to help those with visual impairments.
Lighthouse of the Big Bend is showcasing the OrCam.
It's a new camera that hooks to a person's glasses, and can read any text the person sees.
The gadget can also memorize someone's face, and will be able to alert the user when that person enters a room.
"It's one of those things that all of the sudden, any totally blind or visually impaired person...if I hand them my card and they really can't read it, and it doesn't have any Braille on in, they can just actually look at it with the OrCam and it'll start reading it to them," said Wendy Mons of the Visually Impaired Foundation of Georgia.
The OrCam starts at $2,500 for the base model.
Official at the Lighthouse say it's just one of many new tools they offer for those who are dealing with vision issues.
"We create a goal for our clients, so if you come to the Lighthouse and you say 'I want to get back to work', we're going to help you achieve that goal," said Yolanda Robles Hue of Lighthouse of the Big Bend. "There's not a one stop shop for what we do. Everything is personalized. We have group lessons, we have one on one lessons and those combined help our clients with gaining their independence."
