QUINCY, Fla. (WTXL) - Magnolias are a staple in the Southern United States but you may not realize how many different types of magnolia are in our area. An upcoming event though is teaching participants about all of the different varieties and giving them a first-hand look at more than 150 different types.
"Magnificent Magnolias" takes place on Saturday, February 14, at the University of Florida-North Florida Research and Education Center (NFREC) in Quincy. The event is sponsored by Gardening Friends of the Big Bend Inc., Magnolia Society International and NFREC.
The event will feature Dr. John Tobe along with NFREC's Dr. Gary Knox, talking about the different varieties and how gardeners can use them in their landscape at home. There will also be a tour of the Magnolia Garden which has been collecting the plants for 15 years.
The event is free to anyone who would like to participate and lasts from 1:00 to 3:00pm. If you would like to learn more information, you can call 850-875-7162.
