Tallahassee, Fla. (WTXL)--Deep-fried turkeys can provide a delicious meal or a devastating fire. The Tallahassee Fire Department stopped by Sunrise for another installment of For Your Protection discussing the do's and don'ts when it comes to frying your frozen bird.
The says the holiday season is their biggest time of the year, and offers these tips:
- Don't add too much oil (it will spill out)
- Don't put water on an oil fire (water evaporates and pushes oil around)
- Thaw out your turkey
- Make sure the ground is level
- Don't be too close to the house
- Monitor the temperature
- Don't drink and Fry
