TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- A new guardianship law is now in effect in Florida.

Under Florida law, guardianship is when someone is unable to manage his own affairs, so someone else is appointed to do so.

A bill passed in the 2015 State Legislature added new restrictions and proceedings when it comes to appointing a guardian.

The Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys, are offering consumer tips on protecting senior citizens from guardian abuse.
