Tallahassee, FL (WTXL) -- Being connected online these days is essential to the success of any business or start-up, so it's important to make the most of your social media accounts.
In this edition of "Your Career," WTXL ABC 27's Christine Souders spoke with Audrey Bell from Hatch & Fly to learn how to better brand yourself online.
Tips on setting up your personal Facebook account:
- Use a real profile photo of you so people can recognize who you are when accepting friend requests
- Setup your privacy settings for only friends or friends of friends to be able to see your posts
- Enable the setting for tagging to allow you to approve tags in photos before they are seen - let's face it, if it happened in Vegas, you might not want everyone on Facebook to know about it!
- Only allow people you actually know to friend you or friends of friends that you know are legit - beware of the random friend requests from people who have no information, and two pictures up that were just recently posted.
- Share positive posts at least 90% of the time - filter the negative thoughts and rants to a minimum and make sure if you're saying something that isn't positive that at least your message is constructive, helpful or giving information that could help someone else.
- Tell your best friends offline or in private messages when you feel like venting - rarely is this helpful in an online platform
- Check-in or give reviews to places you visit
- Thank companies by tagging them with @Company Name to help spread the word about your favorite places
- The best compliment any business could receive is to be referred by a friend
- Check-in to your business and share photos and videos of what you actually do
