Tallahassee, Fla., (WTXL)- TVs, DVRs, DVD players, audio equipment, gaming systems – together they can create a twisted web of wires. One remedy which doubles as décor might inspire you to clear your own cord clutter.
When Erica Seagrave and family moved into their new house, they wanted a home theater where they could entertain and be entertained. They also wanted the focal point to be the screen – not all the equipment and electrical cords.
“We did not consider doing it ourselves, because my husband and I don’t have that talent nor do we have the time. We knew we wanted to hire it out,” Seagrave said.
With the ongoing interior tech revolution, many service providers are up to the task.
“If you’re not sure how to tackle hiding those cords and really improving the look of your room, you can always turn to the professionals who install TVs and home audio equipment, because they have a lot of ideas you might not even think of,” Angie’s List founder Angie Hicks said.
Seagrave hired SYNC Technology Integration to customize their system. SYNCH owner Gary Jefferies cited two factors that impact this kind of specialized task.
“Definitely the structure of the home – where we can get wires, where we can’t get wires. And ultimately, it boils down to their budget, how much they you want to put into hiding everything into a centralized location,” he said.
The Seagraves utilized Jeffries’ tactic of hiding everything behind a sliding poster.
“We found a movie poster that kind of fit the size for all the equipment that was going in a rack, where she can go up to the movie poster, slide it out of the way, slide it back, and there’s all the equipment right behind there,” Jeffries said.
Angie says you don’t have to go to the Seagraves’ level of clutter busting. Binding your cords with binder clips or Velcro, and tucking them along a baseboard, can be a great de-tangler. You can also affix cords to the undersides of tables and desks, or hide them in decorative boxes that allow access without having them lying about.
