TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Getting his diploma hasn't been easy for Mark Moten but it has been rewarding.

"Its been a long time coming. It's been a challenge. I went through 12 years of cancer and I was told I only have five years to live," said Mark Moten.

Battling cancer took a toll on him physically, causing him to lose a kidney, but he didn't let that hold him back.

"Rather than sitting around the house... I challenged my son to go to college and he decided to challenge me... so challenge accepted and challenge completed," Moten said.

Demaurio Moten has always been close with his father. when it comes to determination... the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

"We've always had a good relationship with my father. He has always been the one telling me what I need to do and what I should do. So he said education is important and I agree.

I have kids to and I want to set a good example for them so I did what I needed to do," said Moten.

The father and son duo pushed each other along the way and Saturday all their hard work paid off. The father son team graduated from Tallahassee Community College with degrees in business. An experience they will cherish for the rest of their lives.

"Its been exciting. It's something I never thought I could get through. Its something I've really enjoyed and I will treasure it for the rest of my life," said Moten

Taking on the world together as a team, all in hopes of making a better life for their family.
