TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum is now one step closer to potentially being Florida’s first black governor.
The excitement was the room Tuesday night as mayor Gillum clinched the Democratic bid at about 9:20 p.m.
Almost two hours later, the crowd was still going. Mayor Gillum’s supporters say his win sends a message to the entire country.
Gillum will now face Ron DeSantis this November, and it Is already shaping up to be a race that the entire country will have their eyes on: A very progressive Democrat facing off against a staunch Republican with major support from president Donald Trump.
Voters on both sides of the aisle say whoever wins that race will send a major message about Florida‘s values.
