TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- The FAMU Board of Trustees held an emergency meeting Tuesday.
Statement from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Regarding SGA Elections
Late yesterday, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University filed a motion to dismiss the Amended Complaint for Emergency Injunctive Relief filed by Plaintiff, Justin Bruno, as well as a notice of appeal on the judge’s non-final order.
These legal actions were taken to uphold the students’ right to decide their own election process. The Student Supreme Court made their own ruling in the Student Government Association (SGA) election and the actions we have taken seek to keep these matters within the student defined, student governed, internal procedures as prescribed by Florida statutes and the Florida Board of Governors’ regulations—and out of the state court system.
In no way, shape or manner did the University administration or Board of Trustees seek to interfere or choose a side in the SGA election. It is worth noting that the call for a new election was made by the students via the student judiciary process. The University Administration and the Board of Trustees respects the right of students to self govern in accordance with their own internal procedures as noted above.
