VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - A Valdosta man was indicted on RICO charges; the Department of Justice saying he was involved with the national gang "The Gangster Disciples".

According to the DOJ and the U.S. Attorney's Office, 30 people were indicted across the U.S. for their involvement in the gang.

Authorities say members were charged with a variety of offenses including drug trafficking, robbery, fraud, extortion and even murder.

The Valdosta man that was indicted, Jeremiah Covington, is listed as a "first coordinator for the Valdosta region", according to the DOJ.

Covington is being charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and racketeering.

Documents say he distributed drugs and even traveled with a gun from Valdosta to Atlanta to protect a heroin transaction with two other gang members.

Covington is also accused of participating in at least one illegal financial transaction where authorities say over $19,000 was deposited into his account.
