Police Release Suspect Name in Apartment Complex Shooting

TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Police have released the name of the man accused of bringing a gun to a Tallahassee apartment complex and shooting an employee.

According to the Tallahassee Police Department, Christopher Martin Weigly has been charged with attempted murder.

Police say Weigly went to University Trails Apartment Complex after his wife was fired earlier in the day.

He then opened fire on employees, shooting James Stewart multiple times in the upper torso and lower extremities, according to officers.

Witnesses told police that after the shooting, Weigly sat in the grass outside the leasing office and waited for officers to arrive.

His wife reportedly told police he left the TCC campus after she called, grabbed a handgun from their apartment and headed to the leasing office.

Court documents show that Weigly's wife said she tried to stop him from going inside, but he pushed past her, shot Stewart and came back outside, waiting for police to arrive.

Stewart was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening but serious injuries, according to police.

Court records say Weigly is not allowed to possess any weapons or ammo and he must hand over any weapons to law enforcement.

The leasing office at the University Trails apartment complex is now open an measures are being taken to increase security. Crews started installing new security features, including new locks on office doors Wednesday morning.
