JACKSON, Ga. (AP) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Jackson Police Department are investigating an incident in which authorities say a police officer shot an armed man who pointed a rifle at authorities.

The GBI said in a statement that officers responded to a domestic call at a Jackson home Wednesday afternoon.

Jackson police Chief James Morgan says officers encountered a man standing outside and shot him once after he refused to drop his rifle and pointed it at officers.

The man was shot once and taken to a hospital. Police didn't say where the man was hit or what condition he is in.

The shooting comes amid increased scrutiny of police treatment of blacks after several high-profile deaths. GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said the suspect is white. The race of the officer hasn't been released.
