MIAMI (AP) - Authorities say a security guard shot a man during a physical confrontation with a panhandler at a Miami Metromover station.
Police told local media outlets that the guard asked the man to leave the station early Thursday. He did, but returned and bit and tried to choke the guard. The guard then shot the man.
Both the panhandler and the guard were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately available.
The station is next to the Miami-Dade County School Board building and Fischer Medical Center. The Metromover is an electrically-powered train that runs on a 4.4-mile loop, stopping at various stations in the downtown area.
