NEWBORN, Ga. (AP) - Sheriff's deputies in a small Georgia town far, far away apprehended a man inside a Star Wars storm trooper costume, who spent the night in jail on charges of wearing a mask and reckless conduct.
WMAZ-TV reports (on.wmaz.com/1TpwkHU) that Justin Marling's full armor and a plastic gun created concern as he walked down a road in Newborn, prompting deputies to be called.
Marling tells the station he was trying to raise awareness for a charitable cause: Star Wars Force for Change, which aims to inspire people to have a positive impact.
A Jasper County sheriff's report states that Marling had two hands on what they thought was a real weapon.
Under Georgia law, wearing a mask in public is illegal with some exceptions, such as holidays and special events.
