VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - Two men from Tampa were arrested on I-75 in Lowndes County after deputies confiscated several counterfeit credit/debit cards they say are likely encoded with stolen accounts.
Deputies arrested Yimy Gonzalez, 34, and Luis Perez, 21, on Wednesday afternoon after a traffic stop.
Deputies pulled over Gonzalez's vehicle on I-75 around mile marker 7 after noticing what they reported a dark, illegal window tint.
While speaking to Gonzalez and Perez, who claimed to be headed to Chicago, deputies say they noticed the two were unusually nervous and asked to search the car. It was then the deputies said they found two fake driver licenses as well as 17 credit/debit cards.
Deputies say these cards were checked and found to be encoded with banking information different than what was printed on the face of the card and were likely linked to stolen bank accounts.
Gonzalez and Perez were arrested and taken to Lowndes County Jail.
