VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A Florida man and his son are charged with trying to hire a homeless man to murder the older man's mother.
The Treasure Coast Newspapers reported Wednesday (goo.gl/QxIxOu) that the pair sought out homeless men using free wireless internet at a Vero Beach McDonald's to carry out the plot.
Arrested were 44-year-old Suraj Narine and his 20-year-old son Christopher Narine. Indian River deputies also arrested 55-year-old Michael "Shorty" Hamons, who they say was paid $5,000 to kill Suraj Narine's 73-year-old mother.
Investigators say Hamons planned to kill the woman on Thursday, but another homeless who had also been solicited in the murder-for-hire plot tipped off deputies.
The informant went to the Narines' home with a hidden audio and video recorder on Tuesday and taped a conversation about the plot.
