DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a man on trial for murder in metro Atlanta left the courthouse before jurors returned their verdict convicting him in a 2014 slaying.
A spokesman for the DeKalb County district attorney's office, Marcus Garner, says 24-year-old Taiquan Mitchell of Atlanta was gone when the jury convicted him of murder on Monday.
Garner tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://on-ajc.com/2cOP0zW ) that Mitchell is now a fugitive.
Mitchell has been free on bond while awaiting trial in the slaying of 29-year-old Marcus Beanite Waters in January 2014. A co-defendant didn't make bail and remains in the county jail.
Mitchell and the other man were convicted on charges including murder, assault and weapons counts.
A judge ordered that Mitchell was supposed to wear an ankle monitor. It's unclear whether the device is active.
