TALLAHASSEE Fla.-- The Democrat's sit-in protest over the lack of action on gun control lasted for more than 24 hours.
North Florida Representative Gwen Graham participated in the sit-in as well, delivering a floor speech Wednesday night, calling for congress to act on gun safety legislation.
Congressman John Lewis, who launched the sit-in Wednesday morning, said the fight was not over.
Lewis was cheered by supporters when he walked outside.
He said lawmakers must come back to Washington on July 5th when congress returns to session more determined than ever.
"Today we've come a distance, we made some progress. We crossed one bridge, but we have other bridges to cross. we're not giving up the fight. The fight is an ongoing fight. We will not be happy, we will not be satisfied, we will not be pleased until we do something in a major way," said Lewis.
Lawmakers say during the recess they will take the issue to their districts.
