SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — A car recovered from a South Florida canal is the one a young couple was in when they disappeared decades ago.
A South Florida Water Management District employee spotted the 1969 Dodge Cornet Wednesday while doing routine maintenance. Authorities ran the vehicle identification number and the Broward Sheriff's Office confirmed Thursday that it was connected to a 1978 missing persons case.
No bodies were found inside the car. Divers were continuing to look for more clues.
Authorities say 15-year-old Dana Null and 19-year-old Harry Wad Atchison III were last seen in October 1978. They had attended a Foreigner concert and afterward they began arguing at Atchison's house. He got in his car to leave and she got in beside him. They left were never seen again.
